“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once” – Albert Einstein.
Placement season(a.k.a job hunt) at college. The final years felt the tension in the air as they attended companies with the same hope of getting placed every single day. Disappointments and failures became numb to some of us. Others were filled with remorse and regret.
And it was just another Monday at college, where I was so close to getting selected but ended up rejected by one of the bulk companies that came to our college. “Rejected by a bulk company”- that hit me rock bottom. Maybe I didn’t try hard enough or I just had to wait for my lucky day. With another company to attend on Tuesday, I called it a day. Tuesday: Took the aptitude test and left for home. Around 3pm, I get a call saying I made it to the next round.(It wasn’t a prank apparently).Wednesday: Round 2 – Group Discussion, and the topic was ‘The current situation in Infosys’ – to which none of us had a clue, though we ended it pretty well. But the third round was the decision-maker.(Technical Interview. Boo!). Word flew fast that Panel 4 was all chilled out. My two friends and I, sitting among 20 probable candidates, were discussing JAVA and SQL questions and wished for Panel 4.
“Reshmitha!”, sent a shiver down my spine as I walked and, guess what, into Panel 4. I couldn’t help but feel blessed already. Entered the room, took my seat and exhaled. After a brief introduction about myself, I was bombarded with some JAVA exception handling questions. I tried to keep my head above water with relevant answers. Later during the process, I was at the point of arguing with my interviewer about abstraction and interface in JAVA OOP’s concept. SQL and some HR questions were asked. Turns out my interviewer is an Arsenal fan. :P
With a broad smile in my face, I exit the room. After half an hour, the results were announced and I made the cut. To my shock and everyone else’s, the HR interview turned to make my day bad (twist in the plot -_-). When my HR interview was over, I was sent off empty- handed(Everyone else came with the offer letter) and was asked to wait. I came out like a zombie(they said I looked like it). Few minutes later, my name was called again. I pulled myself together to face the worst-case scenario. “I’m too emotional”, the HR says. My mind races to find where I went wrong during my interview. The HR,then, appreciates my communication skill and with a little hope in me, hands over my offer letter, making me promise that I stay strong to face the corporate world. Making that promise there in the room, we shake hands. I signed the letter and submitted my mark sheets. So yaay, I was given an offer letter! With the letter in my hand, I boarded my train to Madurai for a little celebration.
End of my trip, I lost my phone(Nexus 5, you will be missed :'( ). And I just realized it was God’s way of keeping my feet on the ground and not let the job take over my head(Good job, God).
