Yes, I can see your shocking faces already(been here). Being a female fan, I’ve been hit with a lot of questions starting from ‘Which club do you support?’ to ‘Do you play?’. The most annoying comment you can get is : “ who’s hotter? Cristiano or Ronaldo? “(eyerolls). Well, if you think girls watch football to check out players, you’re wrong. Atleast not all. It’s not like the football stadiums are filled with only the guys cheering the teams. Other girls think that being a football fan seems so tomboyish (I’ve heard people tell me!), but it’s not. Let me remind you that there is a female football team for all the countries, so being a female fan shouldn’t really be that shocking.( American Forward player, Alex Morgan is my girl! ).
This football addiction started when I was in 6th std, when my brother and I were introduced to the Barclays Premier league (which is now just Premier league). I remember us watching our first match, The Champions League finals- Manchester United vs Chelsea and how we ( I’m a United fan! ) won the cup though Ronaldo missed a penalty. That’s how football came into my life. I used to play football (like taking penalty shots) with my brother, he would teach me a lot of tricks. And not that I want to brag or anything, but I do know players other than Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo. Watching football, not only gives an idea of the player’s overall performance and other their stats, it also provides a perception of the so-called football politics and their strategy involved.
The weekends are never complete without watching my favorite team win (sometimes they have a bad week). Our eyes glued to the ball, hanging on the edge of our seats, we fight over who’ll score the goal ! And every loss, makes you feel you’ve hit rock bottom. Let me tell you that the joy of watching the club you support win the championships is priceless!
